IRONMAN TRAINING

PURPOSE: To prepare athletes of all levels from novice to professional for an Ironman triathlon. Athletes who participate in the Ironman training program will be fully prepared for a successful Ironman experience. As athletes know it is not just the Ironman competition but the journey that leads to the eventual maturity which makes the athlete who they are.

THE PROGRAM: A preliminary fit test will be performed for all participants to evaluate their current fitness level. There will also be a questionnaire regarding health history, previous athletic background, and special concerns on my site. Please bring it completed to the fit test.

Participants will be divided into three groups; RED, WHITE, & BLUE based on previous & current athletic experience. Training zones will be determined after fitness testing has been performed.

The program will be hosted on my web site ecoachjoe.com. Upon receiving their monthly dues, participants will be given a password which will give them access to the training information.

THE BUDDY SYSTEM: Participants will be able to train with others who have similar training heart rates. The distances will be different from group to group but you will still be able to train together as long as you follow your own guidelines. There will be an internet/phone list to communicate with your teammates.

TRAINING: The training will be broken down as follows:

SWIMMING BIKING RUNNING OFF DAY
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Monday or
Wednesday Thursday Friday recovery
Friday Sunday Saturday swim


These are proposed training days which you may need to adjust to fit your personal schedules.

There will be structured long runs leaving Transition Sports on Saturdays. There will also be group bike rides leaving Transition Sports on Sundays. Times will be posted on my site as well as at the shop.

CHECK IN WITH COACH JOE:
To receive the most benefit from this program, participants are expected to check in via email with their weekly training log every Monday. There will be a training log on the web site, which can be used. For those of you who may not have email you can also fax me at 510/538-8746. This information allows me to monitor the progress of every individual in the group. It is your responsibility to make sure that I receive this weekly log. A biweekly phone call of 10 minutes is included for all participants or a biweekly email based upon your needs. I request that you have all of your questions prepared so that I can address all questions and concerns in the allotted time frame. If you are injured, please notify me immediately.
