"I appreciate Joe Phillips because he is sincere, reliable, and good to his word.
Joe appreciates the difficulties I face in making my workouts a priority
in the face of an irregular schedule. Joe is able to understand and support my goals, even though we are very
different people and have very different lifestyles.
Joe is personable and "real". He doesn't pretend to be anything that he
is not. Lots of trainers seem to want to make themselves seem
bigger/better than you. Joe shows me every day that we work together
that his primary interest is helping me to meet my goals.
Joe doesn't just observe you like a physical specimen that needs work.
He shares a bit of his life and a lot of his experiences, knowledge and
his understanding of what you need to do to meet your goals.
Why do I continue to work with Joe, after 2 years?
Joe is continuously interested in improving his knowledge and skills and
he has shared those bits and pieces with me over time. I feel like I can
learn along with him and that he is keeping his eye out continuously for
ways for me to work out that will be suited to me and my goals.
Joe makes the work out interesting and varied. Not only does he apply his
knowledge of how to develop muscles and aerobic capacity, but he
understands a huge amount about what it takes to keep people interested
in and, therefore, motivated to do their own work out.
I am not a professional athlete, and sometimes my reasons to be flexible, in shape
and strong aren't enough to keep me going at it. Joe understands this,
but doesn't let me give in to it. Joe will push--as hard as you want, but only as long as it is good for you.
He doesn't believe in overworking, but he will definitely push you to work
hard.
I trust Joe to be the kind of trainer who can work with a wide variety of
people and have referred a range of friends to him because of this trust.
Joe was effective with a friend who hadn't been active for over 15 years.
Its not many trainers who have the interpersonal skills and range of
coaching techniques and knowledge of the human body and psyche to be
able to work with both the triathlete and the out-of-shape, 100 pound
over weight, stay-at-home middle-aged woman."
